HAST Counsellor Position

The HAST Counsellor role involves providing HIV Testing Services to clients accessing public health services in alignment with the National Department of Health’s 95-95-95 targets. Responsibilities include reporting using standardized templates and a Smart Phone app, working within a team, and collaborating with clinics and community networks. This is a community-based role requiring proximity to listed facilities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities include:

– Conducting HIV counselling and testing services
– Recruiting clients from health facility waiting areas and communities
– Providing HIV/AIDS Counselling and Testing and TB screening services
– Educating clients on health and specific HIV/TB/PMTCT-related conditions
– Promoting awareness of knowing one’s status and advising on coping mechanisms, treatment options, lifestyle adaptation, and good nutrition
– Offering adherence counselling and treatment support identification
– Maintaining patient confidentiality
– Conducting TB symptom screening and referral
– Linking positive clients to ART initiation services
– Performing other assigned duties

Requirements:

– Grade 10 (Matric or higher educational qualification advantageous)
– HTS Certificate, including adherence counselling and rapid testing course (RT QII)
– Advanced counselling certificate
– Disclosure and paediatric consent certificate
– Psychosocial counselling certificate
– Couple Counselling
– Fluent in English and/or isiXhosa
– Clear criminal record
– Ability to travel extensively within the assigned district
– Be able to manage data, paperwork requirements, and use an online app
– Ability to prioritize workload to meet deadlines
