The primary focus of this role is to recruit, retain, and collaborate on projects with young people. This involves frequent community dialogues, engagement activities, and the establishment and maintenance of a youth PrEP club.

Minimum Requirements:

– Grade 12 Certificate or Equivalent
– Age between 18-29
– Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, including PrEP
– Familiarity with public health and community resources
– Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel)
– Fluency in English and isiXhosa
– Strong communication skills (both verbal and written)
– Excellent public speaking abilities
– Good administrative skills
– Ability to build and maintain interpersonal relationships
– Strong planning and organizing skills
– Client-focused approach
– Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing conditions
– Ability to work independently and as part of a team
– Detail-oriented with an interest in community engagement
– Willingness to travel locally and work irregular hours

Advantageous:

– Valid Driver’s License (Code 8)
– Knowledge of the geographical area (Klipfontein/Philippi) would be advantageous
– Good Clinical Practice (GCP) certification

Responsibilities:

– Recruit potential FastPrEP study participants for focus group discussions and community dialogues
– Coordinate logistics and documentation for community dialogues
– Create a welcoming and supportive environment for all participants
– Maintain regular communication with the study coordinator regarding participant progress
– Oversee the FastPrEP youth club
– Assist Research Assistants and Social Science Interviewers in conducting Participatory Research in the Community
– Assist in the development of demand creation materials and practices
– Follow up with participants who miss scheduled visits and keep records of all interactions
– Meet regularly with the investigator, Study Coordinator (SCO), and Community Liaison Officer (CLO) to discuss recruitment, retention, and the content of the Youth Reference Group
– Liaise with the youth Community Advisory Board regarding study progress
– Ensure adherence to Good Clinical Practice Standards and ethical conduct
– Maintain participant confidentiality at all times
– Provide basic information about PrEP to potential participants and basic HIV and ART education to other clients (individually and in groups)
– Ensure accurate and timely entry of study-related data
– Assist with filing research forms and patient files
